My passion for teaching began at sixteen as an assistant swimming teacher and captain of the Vale Royal Lifesaving Society. These roles allowed me to coach peers and teach rookie lifeguard classes for children, which made me realize how much I enjoyed planning and delivering my own lessons. From there, I worked at a leisure centre teaching everyone from three-year-olds to adults. While I specialized in lifesaving for a time, I realized I could have a greater impact by focusing on the initial stages of development, fostering a positive relationship with water from a young age.
Teaching one to one lessons for ages 2 to 70+ taught me that early exposure is vital. Often, the longer swimming is delayed, the more likely a person is to develop aquaphobia. I know this personally; I didn’t start lessons until I was five and was a very anxious swimmer. It took a kind, patient instructor to help me overcome my fear.

We have a variety of swimming classes in North Yorkshire for babies and pre-schoolers; our fully qualified swimming teachers offer classes in Leeds and Harrogate. Alex is brilliant! Right from our very first session, he created such a friendly and calm atmosphere for us. My daughter was quite nervous about the pool initially, but Alex’s patience and playful approach have really helped her.
